The gala is getting underway! Everything looks smashing. It is a wonderfully fantastic landscape, many of the prizes are floating around the hall in little golden cages with descriptive cards hanging below.

Pansy, your dress looks smashing, but I'm sure you'll be hard to catch. I on the other hand will be the world's slowest snitch and am totally catchable, but only for every other dance as half my card is full of Cedric and the Benches.

I've scouted several secluded corners between the main hall and the gents that we ought to be able to ambush him from on his way back.

If we can't catch him wandering off, near the end of the evening I'll make a show of leaving, alter my mask and costume a bit come back in and lure him out with some excuse into a trap of whoever we can round up.

I think it looks lovely this year - and you're quite right about the variety of costumes.

(And the variety of interpretations: I admit I'm rather preferring the more subtle and conceptual to the ones that seem to take up rather a lot of space. I've been thinking wings are a horribly inconvenient sort of thing in company.)

I keep seeing more people I really must try and catch, so if I don't manage to see you in person, I do hope we'll get a chance to chat before everything gets going at school again.

A slow snitch you may be, Ced old bean, but you still have the presence of mind and alacrity to capture a dance with the fairest maiden at the ball! Make no mistake, I am applauding; only a boor would begrudge his lady fair the chance to bestow her radiant smile and a dance upon such a good fellow, particularly one whose dancing days are only lately returning.
